Talking Another Newbie!!

Hi Everyone!

I'm in week 10 of my new way of eating and doing great. I've been lurking on the boards for a while and thought it was time to take the plunge and say "HI". So "HI!"

Thanks Everyone! I'm here to stay that is for sure! I'm completely off all my diabetes meds and my sugar is better now than it was on the meds. Cholesterol is normal now as well. What more can you ask for???

Welcome, Karen, and congrats on great results so far.

I'm interested in your comment that you're off diabetes meds. How long have you been on diabetes medication? Did your doctor recommend or approve your decision to go Low-carb? What's the reaction there to your success so far?

Hope the good health trend continues.

Best wishes.

I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2002 and have been on some form of medication ever since - without seeing great results. Most of my weight gain started after the diabetes diagnosis, not before. For the last 4 years I've tried following the doctors recommendation of 45-60 carbs per meal and was gaining weight. I finally just decided to take the plunge and take control. After alot of research I chose Atkins, adjusting my meds on my own as I went. (Not saying it was smart, and I don't recommend others do it without talking to a doctor, but I'm a little pig headed.)
My endocrinologist's comment on my last visit was "You are doing WHAT?" then she saw my labs and changed her story to "I can't argue with your results, it obviously works for you, keep doing it." She did prescribe me an insulin pen and provided me with a sliding scale in case I "fell off the wagon for a day" or "got sick". She and I decided we would do 4 month A1C levels to keep a check on it for a while.
From here, it's just wait and see, but so far, so good!!!! YAY ME!!!
